Environmental Services Team Leader

Job Introduction

Yorkshire Housing is on the lookout for a passionate and dedicated Environmental Services Team Leader! As a key member of the team, you'll play a vital role in guiding and supporting your colleagues, ensuring that everyone works seamlessly together across all areas of our business.

Great leadership and communication skills are at the heart of this role. You'll need to be comfortable chatting with everyone, from colleagues across YH to customers and leaseholders, whether you're managing day-to-day tasks or planning exciting upgrades.

What we’re all about

You might think of Yorkshire Housing as ‘just’ a housing provider. We own and manage nearly 20,000 homes (and counting) across Yorkshire and our mission is to make it possible for current and future customers to have a place they’re proud to call home. We’re all about the customer, and our service doesn’t stop once the keys are in the door.

So, what will I be doing?

You'll be using your skills to keep us on track, ensuring that everything we do meets the high standards our customers expect. And because we’re all about getting the best value for money, you’ll help us work smarter and keep an eye on performance.

We’re looking for a hands-on leader to take charge of grounds maintenance across the West and North areas. You’ll ensure our services are top-notch, work closely with the community, and keep everything running smoothly. From tree care to minor works like fencing and landscaping, you’ll be at the heart of it all, while making sure health and safety standards are always met. Plus, you'll support and encourage your team, making sure everyone feels heard and valued.

We’re looking for someone who’s flexible and willing to step in when needed, including the occasional out-of-hours emergency. Being able to work outside regular office hours from time to time is also important.

Already feel this is the role for you? There’s much more useful information you can read in the job description…

Here’s what we need from you…

  • Recognised qualification or equivalent experience in horticultural, landscape maintenance, community based services (to include Health & Safety regulations, the use of safe machinery, PPE, etc.)
  • Experience of Arboricultural works, climbing and aerial rescue
  • Experience of trailer and plant towing
  • Relevant people management experience / experience in recruiting & training
  • Ability to plan and prioritise the team’s daily workloads
  • A valid UK driving licence is an essential requirement
  • Fantastic communication skills – goes without saying!
  • A display of many of the relevant behaviours set out in Yorkshire Housing’s values

What’s in it for you

In return, we offer a salary of £35,821 per annum for a 35 hour week, 25 days annual leave (raising annually to 30 days) plus Bank Holidays. We also offer a £2,000 car allowance with this role.

So, what sets us apart from the competition? For starters, we pay more than the market average and we pay for all training that isn’t common practice in this field, thus saving you a lot of money! All kit and PPE are provided from day one.

But that’s not all. We offer a reward package to suit everyone. At Yorkshire Housing, you can claim back for prescriptions, eye tests and more with our cash plan, make the most of a variety of retail discounts and take advantage of our pension scheme where we’ll match your contributions up to 9%, just to name a few.

Our people’s health and wellbeing are one of our top priorities, and you can make the most of our readily available wellbeing support package. This includes access to a library of free fitness classes, as well as an instant My GP service and free counselling sessions with a trained professional.

So, now you’re really interested?

If you’re ready to make a difference and help us continue delivering top-notch services across Yorkshire, we’d love to hear from you!

At Yorkshire Housing, we’re actively building a work environment that’s inclusive as well as diverse, where everyone can contribute their best work and be themselves. We believe difference is what makes us stronger and recognise the importance of our teams reflecting the communities we serve, so we welcome and encourage candidates from all backgrounds for this role.
