Land Buyer

Job Introduction

At Yorkshire Housing, we’re passionate about creating places that people are proud to call home -  and this role puts you right at the heart of making that happen. As a Land Buyer, you’ll play a vital part in shaping the future of our communities by helping us secure the land we need to deliver high quality, affordable homes across Yorkshire.

We believe work is something you do, not somewhere you go so if you want to work for a company who are truly flexible and where you are valued then this could be the role for you!

What we’re all about

You might think of Yorkshire Housing as ‘just’ a housing provider, but we’re so much more than that. Yes, we own and manage nearly 20,000 homes (and counting) across Yorkshire, but we’re also all about making a positive difference in people’s lives.

We’ve got big plans to overhaul the traditional customer service offer, build new homes that are truly future-proof and empower our people through flexibility and freedom to do their best work.

Our investment in technology is a key pillar of our strategy and our change team are working on exciting, complex and ambitious programmes to deliver a pre-emptive customer experience – who wouldn’t want to be a part of that?

What you’ll be doing

As part of our supportive land team, you’ll play a key role in helping us bring new homes to life across a range of tenures. You’ll work closely with your fellow Land Buyer and report into our Head of Acquisitions, collaborating every day to make sure we’re identifying the right opportunities and moving them forward with care and confidence.

You’ll help to identify and acquire land for new homes, managing the journey from early site spotting and assessment through to planning and pre‑start. You’ll bring people together across YH and beyond - from colleagues to consultants and land partners - making sure each project progresses safely, smoothly and in line with our processes. You’ll also support the assessment of new opportunities through bids, appraisals and option reviews, contributing your insight to help shape the homes we deliver.

This role comes with an agile homeworking contract, so there is lots of flexibility and much of your time will be spent working from home. However, you’ll need access to your own transport so you can visit sites when needed, and you’ll also spend some of your time at our workspace in Leeds for co‑working, team collaboration and meetings.

Other key responsibilities include:

  • Identifying and acquiring suitable land opportunities across a variety of tenures.
  • Co‑ordinating partners such as solicitors, consultants, developers and internal teams to keep each project on track.
  • Leading on assessing new opportunities through bids, option appraisals and financial viability work.
  • Building strong, positive relationships with land agents, local authorities, developers and consultants.
  • Following YH development processes, commissioning consultants and supporting legal documentation as sites progress.

Who are we looking for?

We’re looking for someone who thrives on getting stuck in, enjoys being a true team player, and wants to make a real impact in a small, supportive land team. This role is ideal if you’ve gained some experience in land, development or planning and are ready to take the next step in your career while continuing to learn and grow with us.

You’ll bring:

  • Experience of building strong internal and external relationships, including with land agents, local authorities, planners, architects, consultants and contractors
  • Knowledge of the planning process and an understanding of planning, Building Regulations or wider regulatory requirements
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well in a team
  • A full UK driving licence and the ability to travel to sites across Yorkshire
  • Flexibility to occasionally work outside normal office hours
  • A willingness to develop your skills, adapt to change and take on new challenges
  • Personal values and behaviours that align with YH’s values

What’s in it for you…

  • Salary: £44,423 per annum (35 hours/week)
  • 26 days annual leave (rising to 31 annually) + Bank Holidays
  • Permanent contract

We offer a reward package to suit everyone. At YH, you can claim back for prescriptions, eye tests and more with our cash plan, make the most of a variety of retail discounts and take advantage of our pension scheme where we’ll match your contributions up to 9%, just to name a few.

Our people’s health and wellbeing are one of our top priorities, and you can make the most of our readily available wellbeing support package. This includes access to a library of free fitness classes, as well as an instant My GP service and free counselling sessions with a trained professional.
