Insurance and Claims Officer

Job Introduction

Fancy using your insurance and claims expertise to make a real difference?

We're looking for an Insurance and Claims Officer to join our Governance, Risk and Assurance team.

In this role, you'll manage a varied caseload from first notification through to settlement, helping us deliver a brilliant service for customers while protecting Yorkshire Housing from unnecessary risk and cost. You'll use your judgement, attention to detail and negotiation skills to find fair, practical solutions when things don't quite go to plan.

If you're someone who enjoys solving problems, building relationships and getting into the detail, we'd love to hear from you.

What will you be doing?

You'll take ownership of a portfolio of claims, including property damage, employers' liability, public liability and housing disrepair claims. From investigating incidents and gathering evidence to assessing liability and negotiating settlements, you'll play a key role in helping us achieve the right outcomes for customers and Yorkshire Housing.

You'll also:

  • Be our go-to person for insurance and claims advice
  • Assess claims and recommend liability decisions
  • Work closely with insurers, legal professionals and specialist experts
  • Negotiate settlements and challenge excessive claim reserves
  • Identify trends and lessons learned to help us improve
  • Support colleagues with clear, practical guidance
  • Help manage and promote our My Home Contents Insurance scheme
  • Support insurance renewals, reporting and compliance activities

This is an agile homeworking role. There’ll be days when you’ll join us in our Leeds workspace for team catch-ups, collaboration and face-to-face time with colleagues and other times you might choose to work from home.

Already feel this is the role for you? There’s much more useful information you can read in the Role Profile!

Who are we looking for?

You'll already have experience working in insurance and handling personal injury and/or third-party damage claims. Just as importantly, you'll be confident making decisions, asking the right questions and working with a range of people to achieve the best possible outcome.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Builds positive relationships and communicates clearly
  • Can balance customer needs with managing risk and cost
  • Has strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Stays organised and manages competing priorities well
  • Enjoys taking ownership and working collaboratively
  • Looks for opportunities to improve how things are done

It'd be great if you've also worked with housing disrepair claims, claimant solicitors or third-party settlement negotiations, but these aren't essential.

Why Yorkshire Housing?

We're about far more than homes. Everything we do is focused on helping people have a place they're proud to call home and creating positive outcomes for our customers and communities. Our insurance and claims service plays an important part in that, helping us support customers when things go wrong while protecting our homes, colleagues and reputation.

What’s in it for you…

• Salary: £33,895 per annum (35 hours/week)

• 26 days annual leave (rising to 31 annually) + Bank Holidays

• Contract: Permanent

We offer a reward package to suit everyone. At YH, you can claim back for prescriptions, eye tests and more with our cash plan, make the most of a variety of retail discounts and take advantage of our pension scheme where we’ll match your contributions up to 9%, just to name a few.

Our people’s health and wellbeing are one of our top priorities, and you can make the most of our readily available wellbeing support package. This includes access to a library of free fitness classes, as well as an instant My GP service and free counselling sessions with a trained professional.

Now you’re really interested?

At YH, we’re actively building a working environment that’s inclusive as well as diverse, where everyone can contribute their best work and be themselves. We believe difference is what makes us stronger and recognise the importance of our teams reflecting communities we serve, so we welcome and encourage candidates from all backgrounds for this role.
