Job Introduction
We believe work is something you do, not somewhere you go, so if you want to work for a company who are truly flexible and where you are valued then this could be the role for you!
We are looking for passionate and experienced professionals, to join our Governance Team as a Governance Advisor. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference – supporting the Group’s Board and Committees and ensuring that Yorkshire Housing meets its governance and regulatory requirements.
About Yorkshire Housing
Here at Yorkshire Housing our customers are at the heart of what we do – we call it being customer obsessed. In a nutshell we own and manage nearly 20,000 homes (and counting) across Yorkshire and our mission is to make it possible for our tenants to have a place they’re proud to call home.
We have huge growth plans and ensuring we are compliant in our approach is an important part of our success – that is where you come in!
Whilst establishing and maintaining close and positive relationships with Board and Committee Members, you will support the organisation with ensuring compliance with our Regulatory Standards and chosen Code of Governance, including the development of procedures which ensure compliance.
It’s important to us that we are forward-thinking and innovative. We have a dynamic, fast paced attitude and are looking for individuals who can embrace change and fit well in this kind of environment.
Your Role
We believe governance isn’t just about rules and procedures and shouldn’t feel like ‘red-tape’. It’s about building great relationships and working with others to navigate governance requirements whilst seeking to ensure we all achieve our commons goals.
We’re looking for someone who is enthusiastic about all things governance, with great interpersonal skills, who can engage with individuals at all levels, both internally and externally. Someone who can make complex, maybe even ‘dry’ elements of governance and compliance engaging and easy to understand.
Your main responsibilities will be focused on two key areas – Board and Committee support and Governance and Regulatory Compliance.
Board and Committee Support
As part of the Governance Team, you will be responsible for facilitating our Board and Committee meetings. To give a flavour, this includes….
Working closely with the lead Executive and respective Chair to ensure meetings run smoothly, the right items are on agendas and scheme of delegations are followed
Assisting with agenda setting
Ensuring reports are received from report authors within timescales
Quality checking reports
Circulating meeting papers
Taking accurate and concise minutes
Ensuring meeting actions are followed up in a timely manner
Ensuring meetings are effective and actively seeking to identify and action any areas of improvement.
Advising on Terms of Reference and delegations
You will also be responsible for providing stellar support to our Board and Committee Members, everything from induction, appraisals, training, recruitment and much more.
Governance and Regulatory Compliance
It’s not just about Board and Committee Meetings…after all, variety is the spice of life right?
The role will also include a wide range of other governance activities, ensuring that Yorkshire Housing operates efficiently and effectively. This will include preparing and filling returns, facilitating our signing and sealing process, managing our statutory registers and our policy framework. We also need to make sure we comply with our chosen Code of Governance and Regulatory Standards through regular self-assessment and active continuous improvement.
