Job Introduction

Are you excited about learning new skills and kick-starting your career as a plumbing and heating Engineer?

Well, you’re in the right place!

We have a fantastic opportunity to join us as a Plumbing and Heating Apprentice in the York/Malton area. You’ll be really getting stuck in with the day to day installing of new heating systems including air source heat pumps and cylinders. You’ll also be learning from an experienced team along the way.

Here’s what you need to know:

How much?

We pay £12,753 for first 12 months as well as 25 days annual leave for a 37.5 hour week.

But that’s not all. We offer a reward package to suit everyone. At YH, you can claim back for prescriptions, eye tests and more with our cash plan, make the most of a variety of retail discounts and take advantage of our pension scheme where we’ll match your contributions up to 9%, just to name a few.

Our people’s health and wellbeing is one of our top priorities, and you can make the most of our readily available wellbeing support package. This includes access to a library of free fitness classes, as well as an instant My GP service and free counselling sessions with a trained professional.

And what about us?

You might think of Yorkshire Housing as ‘just’ a housing provider, but we’re so much more than that. We own and manage nearly 20,000 homes (and counting) across Yorkshire and make it possible for current and future customers to have a place they’re proud to call home

Our service doesn’t stop once the keys are in the door, and as part of our Gas team, you’ll play a key role in ensuring our tenants feel safe, valued and proud to live in a YH home from day one. Are you interested yet?

What you’ll be doing

As a Plumbing and Heating Apprentice, you’ll provide excellent customer service - we expect you to treat customers with respect, kindness and a friendly face whilst carrying out work to the highest standards

You’ll work alongside a fab team of experienced plumbing and heating professionals, carrying out day to day air source heat pump repairs in our properties. You’ll help with installations and complete routine checks, learning on the job.

On top of this you’ll be attending college and passing all your related coursework and exams to gain your Plumbing and Heating Level 3 qualification.

You’ll be the face of Yorkshire Housing to many of our tenants. So, respectful, warm and professional communication is a key part of this role.

You’ll also work closely with the compliance team in ensuring work is undertaken safely.

The stuff that sets you apart

We’re looking for people who can tick most of these boxes –

  • GCSE Grade C/Level 4 or above in Maths, English and Science
  • A passion for learning, and growing your career in plumbing and heating  (work experience in a similar role is a bonus, but not essential!)
  • Good practical skills with a methodical approach to work
  • Driven and self-motivated
  • Passionate about doing the right thing, not the easy thing
  • Ability to manage your own workload and meet deadlines
  • Excellent teamwork skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Of course, there are more details in the full role profile, which is attached, check it out!

So, now you’re really interested?

At YH, we’re actively building a work environment that’s inclusive as well as diverse, where everyone can contribute their best work and be themselves. We believe difference is what makes us stronger and recognise the importance of our teams reflecting the communities we serve, so we welcome and encourage candidates from all backgrounds for this role.

The fine print

The closing date for applications will be 02/04/2024, but we might close it early if we get lots of fab candidates, so don’t hang around. As this role is an apprenticeship, it’s a 48-month fixed contract, but once your fully qualified we’d work with you to secure you an opportunity with us at Yorkshire Housing as we know good talent when we see it

Please remember to complete your application is as much detail as possible, if your CV isn’t the most detailed, your application is your time to shine

We know not everyone excels at interviews which means we don’t always get the best out of people in a traditional interview. So, as you can probably tell we don’t do things the ‘typical’ way here at Yorkshire Housing so the next step of the process will involve a super exciting assessment centre approach where we get to see you face to face
