Job Introduction
Are you passionate about property, sustainability, innovation, and making a real impact? Do you want to drive a bold strategy that enhances lives, communities, and the environment? Then this could be the role for you!
We’re on the lookout for an ambitious and visionary leader to join us as our new Director of Assets and Sustainability. This isn’t just another leadership role – it’s an opportunity to redefine housing standards, champion innovation, and make a lasting impact.
About Yorkshire Housing
You can probably already tell that we’re not your typical housing provider! With around 20,000 homes (and more in the pipeline), we’re on track with our growth plan to build 8,000 new homes across Yorkshire.
We don’t just provide homes though – we create thriving communities and a sustainable future. We’re on a transformative journey, ensuring our homes are modern, efficient, and environmentally friendly. As we push towards a low-carbon future, we’re looking for someone to drive our active asset management strategy, sustainability agenda, and building safety commitments.
What will I be doing?
Reporting into the Exec Director of Growth and Assets you’ll play a key role in shaping our future, leading ground-breaking investment and sustainability projects and ensuring our homes meet the highest standards of safety, comfort, and energy efficiency. We’ve broken down some key responsibilities here:
Shape the future of housing: Drive a proactive asset management and investment strategy that ensures our homes are safe, sustainable, and fit for the future.
Lead sustainability and transformation: Develop and implement a business-wide Sustainability Strategy, moving Yorkshire Housing towards a greener, low-carbon future.
Ensure building safety and compliance: Establish and oversee frameworks that keep our residents safe and our homes fully compliant.
Drive innovation: Lead our transition from reactive to pre-emptive asset management, harnessing new technologies and data-driven decision-making.
Be a game changing leader: Inspire, coach, and empower high-performing teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, excellence, and customer obsession.
Strengthen strategic partnerships: Work closely with Boards, Committees, and external stakeholders, ensuring Yorkshire Housing stays ahead of industry challenges.
What do you need to apply?
It goes without saying that you’ll already be an established senior leader with bags of experience managing a diverse property portfolio with a commercial and strategic mindset and a good understanding of emerging technologies, sustainability, and decarbonisation strategies (social housing experience isn’t mandatory).
You’ll need to be able to think with the customer always in mind and have a passion for people with strong stakeholder management skills and confidence to work effectively with Boards, Executive teams, and external partners.
We’re looking for someone with a solid grasp of statutory and regulatory obligations, ensuring all homes are safe and compliant and someone who knows what it takes to motivate, inspire, and develop teams, driving high performance and innovation. Most importantly, you’ll be an authentic leader who cares about doing the right thing, not the easy thing.

What’s in it for you…
A salary of £102,483 + £3500 car allowance, 30 days annual leave (rising annually to 35 days), health cash-plan, matched pension contributions up to 9%, just to name a few.
We have a flexible approach to work so living in Yorkshire isn’t a requirement of the role (although we’ll expect to see a fair bit of you here!).
Our working environment is inclusive as well as diverse. We believe difference is what makes us stronger and recognise the importance of our teams reflecting the communities we serve, so we welcome and encourage candidates from all backgrounds for this role.
