Job Introduction
We’re looking for experienced and customer focused Asset Surveyors to join our team to lead on fire risk inspections, fire risk assessments and building safety compliance activities, alongside delivering essential stock condition and energy performance surveys across a range of homes in Yorkshire. In this role, you will provide an agile and flexible front-line service tailored to meet the needs and expectations of our customers.
We believe work is something you do, not somewhere you go so if you want to work for a company who are truly flexible and where you are valued then this could be the role for you!
What we’re all about
Here at Yorkshire Housing our customers are at the heart of what we do – we call it being customer obsessed. In a nutshell we own and manage nearly 20,000 homes (and counting) across Yorkshire and our mission is to make it possible for our tenants to have a place they’re proud to call home.
Fire safety and compliance are a key priority for us, and as an Asset Surveyor you’ll play a vital role in ensuring our homes and communal spaces are safe, compliant and effectively managed. Alongside this, you’ll contribute to the government’s target of all our homes hitting an energy rating of C or above by 2030.
What will you be doing?
Fire risk inspections, fire risk assessments and fire door inspections will form a core part of your role, particularly within blocks and communal areas, ensuring compliance with legislation, the fire safety management plan, and best practice. Reporting to our Lead Surveyor, you'll also be responsible for conducting around 1,000 stock condition surveys and 200 energy performance certificate surveys annually as part of wider surveying and compliance activities across asset management and building safety.
Your role will involve plenty of travel across the stunning region of Yorkshire, where you'll be the face of Yorkshire Housing, engaging directly with our customers in their homes. The majority of your working week will be spent out on the road, so it’s important that you’re comfortable working independently, managing your time effectively and enjoy a role that is largely field-based.
You’ll also:
- Identify, assess and escalate fire and safety risks, ensuring customer safety and welfare is always prioritised
- Manage your own workload, coordinating customer appointments and delivering surveys efficiently
- Provide practical frontline advice to customers on fire safety and energy efficiency
- Support wider asset management by identifying repairs, hazards and compliance issues
- Provide an agile and flexible front-line service designed around customer needs

You’ll bring:
- Experience of fire risk inspections and/or fire risk assessments, ideally within residential or communal settings
- A relevant fire safety qualification (e.g. IFE Fire Risk Assessor or equivalent) or demonstrable experience
- Experience of stock condition surveying and a valid DEA qualification
- Knowledge of HHSRS and wider housing/building safety requirements
- Strong organisational and communication skills, with a customer-first mindset
- Ability to identify risks and take appropriate action to keep customers safe
